Big Bang

Haydn Piano Trio in G Major (Gypsy Trio)
Bartók Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion
Brahms Piano Quartet No. 1 in G Minor, Op.25

ChamberFest West’s inaugural season closes with a literal “big bang,” showcasing virtuosic, percussive works and highlighting the exotic flair of gypsy folk music. Haydn’s “Gypsy” Piano Trio is famous for its fiery finale, followed by one of the most sonically inventive works in all of chamber music. The final movement of Brahms’ exhilarating Piano Quartet is a breathless “Gypsy Rondo” that prompted the Hungarian violinist Joseph Joachim to jokingly tell his friend, “You beat me on my own turf!” All in all, a riveting, rollicking, season finale.
